On Thursday, June 3, 2010, the Philadelphia Direct Marketing Association will host its annual celebration of the region’s best direct marketing efforts and practitioners. The event will be held from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Farmhouse at People’s Light & Theatre, 39 Conestoga Road, Malvern, PA.

The evening will feature a presentation of the Direct Marketer of the Year Award, plus the much-anticipated revelation of the winners of the 2010 Benjamin Franklin Awards for Direct Marketing Excellence – or “Benny Awards” as they are known. The Masters of Ceremonies will be Tiffany Hill and Michael Chew, co-hosts of the Tiffany & Michael Morning Show on B101 Philadelphia (WBEB). This year’s Benny competition witnessed a six percent increase in entries with more than 30 different organizations participating. More than 225 regional marketers are expected to attend the event.

The PDMA has chosen this year to recognize Lisa Formica, president of fmi direct, inc., as its 2010 Direct Marketer of the Year. Formica is an extremely hands-on leader whose involvement in her family’s business has helped it to grow from a very small lettershop to an industry leading direct marketing production company. Under Lisa’s tutelage, fmi direct helps clients develop direct response campaigns that utilize both direct mail and Internet marketing. Because of her deep expertise in data processing, sales, production, and client services, Formica has become known as a valuable resource – or “go to” person – in the industry.

Formica has served as a past PDMA President and is currently Chairman of the PDMA Board of Directors. As PDMA President, she led the organization’s rebranding initiative and improved membership numbers as well as increased exposure of the PDMA and its mission to other clubs and organizations. Adding to her credentials, Formica has been a member of the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF) Board of Trustees and has also served on the Board of the Greater Philadelphia Postal Customer Council.

Formica will be presented her award by Scott Schultz, the PDMA’s 2009 Direct Marketer of the Year. Also, for the second time since its inception, the PDMA Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to James Capanna by inaugural recipient, Mary Anne Noon-Childers. Capanna, who is Director of New Business Development for The Total Mailing System, is a long-standing PDMA member and dedicated committee volunteer with the Association. He also provides service to other local and national DMA chapters, the Philadelphia Advertising Club, and the Mailing & Fulfillment Service Association (MFSA).
