July 4th, 2010: July 4th Wawa Welcome America! Celebration

Philadelphia is celebrating America's Birthday with Wawa Welcome America!, an eleven-day festival full of free concerts, parades and three major fireworks displays!

Friday July 2:
Enjoy Dietz and Watson Hot Dog Day in Historic Philadelphia with Ben Franklin, Betsy Ross and a host of others at the Independence Picnic - featuring live music, family fun and of course, plenty of hot dogs. FREE!
Bring a picnic dinner on Independence Mall as Peter Nero and the Philly Pops perform Pops on Independence, a patriotic, alfresco concert (8:00 p.m.). FREE!

Saturday July 3: * FIREWORKS! *
It's all-you-can-eat sweets at the annual Ice Cream Festival at Penn's Landing (July 3-5).
Experience Philadelphia's Asian culture at the Chinatown Block Party, which has returned to the festival after 15 years! FREE!
At 8 p.m., the incomparable Philadelphia Orchestra performs a free concert at Penn's Landing, followed by the festival's second fireworks display. FREE!

Sunday July 4: * FIREWORKS! *
Wear your red, white and blue best to the Independence Day Parade through Historic Philadelphia (11 a.m.). Reminiscent of an old-fashioned Main Street, USA parade, the patriotic jamboree of bands and flags will wind through the very streets where our first Independence Day was celebrated. FREE!
Make your way uptown to the Party on the Parkway (12 noon), a family-friendly fest stretching from The Franklin Institute to the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. FREE!
The Goo Goo Dolls and Philadelphia's own The Roots headline this year's Fourth of July concert on the Parkway (8 p.m.), the largest free concert in America. A star-spangled fireworks display begins immediately following the concert (approx. 10:30 p.m.). FREE!

Monday July 5 — National Holiday:
Don't pack up and rush home after July 4th's dazzling fireworks show, take advantage of the federal holiday and spend one more day enjoying the sights and sounds of Philadelphia. Cool off at Penn's Landing with the Super Scooper Ice Cream Festival, discover Cleopatra at the Franklin Institute, ride a carousel or play a round of mini-golf in Franklin Square — and that's just the beginning!
