AACC Hosts Discussion on Being Your Own Business When Working in Entertainment and the Arts-Thursday, July 15, 2010, 6:00pm-7:30pm-
As part of this year's 3rd Annual Global Fusion Festival, the African American Chamber of Commerce, PA,NJ, DE will host 'Contact My Manager' - a free, paneled discussion focused on business development and brand building for the creative community - taking place at Vivant Art Gallery, 60 North 2nd Street, on Thursday, July 15, 6:00pm-7:30pm.
More often than not, film directors, artists, musicians, and the like, don't view themselves as a business. As part of the AACC's 'Cultural Business Matters' platform, 'Contact My Manager' will feature a panel that boasts a lineup of leaders in entertainment law, marketing & brand management, film, music, and the arts, known both locally and nationally, with the purpose of showing those in the creative industry how to get from point A to point B when building, and maintaining, their brand.
"Our region is home to a large cultural community," says AACC Program Director Nicole R.
Giles. "This event is a vehicle for the African American Chamber of Commerce to reach out to the local creative economy and connect them to the resources available that will help grow their enterprises."
'Contact My Manager' will include two mock negotiations between panelists on the topic of 'Getting An Artist Signed' - the process of transacting contracts and minor business deals; with another two mock negotiations on 'Product Placement' - how to get your product on television, in print, and/or in front of potential consumers. After the negotiations, the featured panelists will answer 'Who, How and Why' an individual should get a manager. Rounding out the event will be an opportunity for guests to receive an on the spot brand consultation, during which they give a 15 second pitch on who they are and what they do, and the panel will provide feedback on whether the individual's image matches their pitch.
Moderated by Rakia Reynolds of Skai Blue Media, featured panelists include:
* James Elam - Elam & Scott, LLP
* Marc Byers - RockStar Entertainment
* Tayyib Smith - two.one.five magazine
* Florcy Morrisset - Vivant Art Collection
* Maori Holmes - Coolhunter Management
